Phedre is the side project of Hooded Fang’s frontman Daniel Lee and bassist April Aliermo, along with guest contributions from a ton of their fellow musician friends. Interestingly, the band which got its start over three late summer nights and bottles of cheap wine, was loosely inspired by Greek mythology (Phaedra was the daughter of Minos and Pasiphe), and the Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood duet, “Some Velvet Morning."

After the release of their 2012 debut, the band had opened for the likes of Ariel Pink and Omar Souleyman. And with the forthcoming release of the band’s sophomore effort, Ancient Nouveau, the band hopes to break out into the national scene.

Album title track "Ancient Nouveau” is the first single and first official video from the new effort, and sonically, the track is dense, murky and ominous while managing to be danceable. In some way it reminds me quite a bit of Zambri but warmer and somewhat more tribal.
