Some Ember, the California-based duo of Nina Chase and Dylan Travis released their self-titledm third album earlier this year, and the effort represents a dramatic change in sonic direction for the duo. “The Thrashing Whip,” the first single off the new album consists of layers upon layers of icy synths with eerie vocals that sound as though they’ve been submerged in ice and are trying to burst free, and harsh, propulsive industrial beats. In some way, the track bears a resemblance to Depeche Mode but much more propulsive and haunting.
