The Brooklyn-based band Weird Owl have established themselves as one of the preeminent New York psych bands. They’ve managed to make something of a name for themselves on the national stage as they’ve toured with White Hills, Hopewell, Earthless, Sleepy Sun, Spindrift and the Black Angels. And they’ve played at the Austin Psych Fest back in 2011.
Healing, which will see an October 15th release through Brian Jonestown Massacre founder Anton Newcombe’s A Recordings, Ltd. represents a change of sonic departure for the band – although it’s subtle. Whereas fuzzy guitars were the forefront, they’ve pushed those in the background so that they could create a more nuanced, layered sound that is reminiscent of MGMT’s excellent Time to Pretend.
The band will tour to build up buzz for the new effort and to support the new effort and the first few days have been confirmed and it’ll include an October 5th set at Death by Audio; as well as stops in Cambridge, MA; as well as Philadelphia, PA.
