The folks at Electric Cowbell Records are proud to release the ever-elusive Karthala 72‘s Diable Du Feu on November 13th. Not much can be found about the band – no one can figure out where were from and little can be found on the band. It seems as though the album was found in a dusty bin in Nairobi or Addis Ababa. With that in mind, it shouldn’t be surprising the this track, “Diable du Feu,” is a dark mysterious, tribal and sweaty bit of Afrobeat with psychedelic and echoey guitars. Although it reportedly draws from the traditional music of Comoros, and Anatolian jazz and other African regional music, it will bear a strong resemblance to Santana’s “Evil Ways.” It’s funky and freaky as fuck and great bit of pure 70s funk.
