The folks at Yours Truly have developed a reputation for producing an interesting and extremely intriguing array of video content, and their latest series Songs from Scratch which pairs a carefully curated collection of like-minded artists together to collaborate on a song – completely from scratch. The latest episode featured  the Melbourne, Australia-based singer/songwriter and producer Nick Murphy, who writes and performs under the moniker of Chet Faker. And as Chet Faker, Murphy has won the attention of blogosphere and international press for a sultry and soulful sound that bears a resemblance to the likes of D’Angelo and others.

Goldlink is a Demalrva Peninsula-based emcee and producer whose sound employs elements of 90s R&B with old school/golden age hip-hop and plays with it by employing modern production. Reportedly not only were both Goldlink and Murphy’s sounds very familiar, both men are known for being unapologetic perfectionists, relentlessly obsessed with getting every detail just right.

The two teamed up at Werewolf Heart Studios in Los Angeles and came up with the seductive, soulful single “On You,” which interestingly enough was a total meeting of like minds, crafted completely on the fly; and yet, it feels as though the two men have been working together and known each other for years.

Lyrically, the song is about a shared experience of the confusing experiences of lust, love and obsession, over that one woman that sets herself apart from the countless others – and how you have to do anything just to be with her. If you’re a straight man, you can probably speak of at least one experience in your life with a woman like that.
