The Sydney, Australia-based duo of Mary Rose and Chris Chidiac played alongside each other in previous projects before they decided to write together early last year after bonding over a common classical training and a mutual love of pop music and electronica, which informs their latest project Polarheart.

Their first single “Paralyse” bears a resemblance to Beacon and to BRAIDS – in the sense that the production is comprised of sparsely arranged, skittering beats and swirling electronics, punctuated by snapped fingers and it gives Mary Rose’s vocals room to roam about the mix. Although the track initially seems icy, it actually contains an earnestly beating heart, as lyrically the song covers paralyzing obsession that leads towards paralyzing heartbreak.
