With the 2009 release of their critically acclaimed debut effort, Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride, the duo of Aimee Nash (vocals, guitar, keyboards and percussion) and Scott Von Ryper (vocals, guitar, keyboards and percussion), best known as The Black Ryder gained both national attention in their native Australia and internationally as songs form the album appeared on Stateside TV shows such as House and Damages, the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, in the campaigns for fashion brands Diesel, MANIAMANIA and The Third Mind and others. Also during that period, the band embarked on an international tour, with a lengthy stint across North America, a collaboration with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and an eventual relocation to Los Angeles, CA. And yet despite the immediate and tremendous success, Nash and Von Ryper split and divorced – although they’ve clearly remained musical collaborators.

The duo’s forthcoming effort, The Door Behind The Door will see a February 24 release through their own label, The Anti-Machine Machine in conjunction with The Orchard, and the album’s first single “Santaria” continues the duo’s reputation for creating a brooding, dense, psychedelic wall of sound-like sound; in fact, in some small way their sound reminds me quite a bit of the The Stone Roses and of The Raveonettes but a bit more textured – the instrumentation seems to gently undulate towards the listener.
