With the official release of their 4 CD box set, The Preservation Hall 50th Anniversary Collection from Legacy Records and their live recording from Carnegie HallSt. Peter and 57th, the folks in the Preservation Jazz Hall Band released this rendition of “In the Evening (When the Sun Goes Down).” As it turns out, this track is one of the box set’s 5 unreleased songs recorded back in 1967 at Allen Toussaint’s Sea Saint Studios, and one of the rare gems that seemed lost forever in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Luckily, Ben Jaffe, son of the group’s late founder and original producer was able to recover and even remaster some of the band’s great material.

Whenever I hear these old tracks, it lightens my heart and makes me think of one of the greatest musical city in the entire world – New Orleans
