With the release of their debut effort, Everything Is Not Going To Be Okay, the Washington, DC-based trio of Black Clouds quickly developed a reputation for a quasi-nihilistic post rock sound and aesthetic. And interestingly enough, the band’s forthcoming sophomore effort Dreamcation, which is slated for a November 4 release through Geoff Rickly’s (of Thursday, No Devotion and United Nations fame) Collect Records is a bit of an aesthetic left turn for the band; in fact, Dreamcation’s first single “Some Of Us Are Meant To Disappear” is a much warmer, and much more upbeat song – even if it’s just very subtly. And they do so while balancing a muscular forcefulness with an incredibly beautiful cinematic sound that bears a resemblance to the likes of Hamburg, Germany’s Collapse Under The Empire and Glasgow, Scotland’s Mogwai
