Photography: Winter in Forest Park 2/23/26
When I arrived at Forest Park a friendly pedestrian noticed me with my camera and said with a smile “This is a photographer’s dream isn’t it?” I replied “Yes! It’s like a postcard — and it looks like I have it all to myself!”
I entered the park near 115th Street and Park Lane South. It’s a bit more rugged and uneven but worth it. I trudged and stomped through almost two feet of almost undisturbed snow in silence before reaching the park’s main paved pathway.
I saw a family pulling little ones on sleds. A couple of people seemed to be going on daily walks. Some were taking photos. I passed a snowman or two. I took a left and walked towards the bridle path. Alone again with my camera and the crunching of snow beneath my feet. Whether I saw a person or not, everything seemed like a series of impressionist paintings.
Off in the distance, kids laughing and squealing could occasionally be heard. That means one thing, kids sledding.
I worried about it getting late, so I turned around and found Myrtle Avenue, where I spent a few minutes watching local kids sledding down hills and staircases before heading home.
