Photography: Queens Night Market

The Queens International Night Market is a large and extremely family-friendly open-air night market, located right next to the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The night market features almost 100 independent vendors selling merchandise, art and food; but it’s probably best known for the food. Goodness, the food y’all. The food.

There’s also regular, small-scale cultural performances, too. The whole affair celebrates the rich cultural diversity and heritage of my home borough, which is arguably one of the most diverse places on Earth.

I hadn’t been to the Queens Night Market in few years. Most of the past 11 years of my life have been so busy with work and running around that I sometimes forget about — well, everything else. It’s a weird life, for sure. But for a much-needed change of pace and to help local businesses that have been hurt by the pandemic and the recent storms, it felt necessary to support with my money.

Some photos from the below. They’re doing a fall session that started last Saturday and continues until October 30.

Caption: The Malaysian Project’s TMP burger. So this is a burger ramly, which is deliciously sinful Malaysian street food. So we got a cheese burger wrapped in fried egg with some really amazing sauces. This one was arguably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, y’all.
Caption: Tibetan Tsel Bhakleb & Tsamthu. Tibetan pastries that kind of tasted a bit like knishes to me. There was a hot sauce that really was pretty amazing, too.
Caption: Taiwanese fried pork. Taiwanese street food is always amazing, y’all.
Caption: Malaysian Grilled Shrimp with Rice.
Caption: Cambodian Meat and Chicken Skewers. Both were delicious — but the chicken was otherworldly.

Caption: Fittingly, there was a stop at The Lemon Ice King Of Corona. They’re probably one of my favorite places — and it brings back countless childhood memories. Plus, I doubt you can get more Queens than The Lemon Ice King.
