Photography: Tony Rosenthal’s “5 in 1” Redux 11/20/23

Earlier this week, I had a brief appointment at the NYC Media and Entertainment‘s Press Credentials Office in the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building on Centre Street. After completing my appointment, I exited the south section, which puts you basically in the middle of 1 Police Plaza, a few hundred feet from Tony Rosenthal‘s 5 in 1

5 in 1 is a 35-foot tall, 75,000 pound painted steel sculpture. Each interlocking disc of the sculpture represents one of the city’s five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. At the time of its installation in 1974, the sculpture was the largest metal public art sculpture installed in the city.

I was meeting a friend in midtown for a drink and had a few minutes to kill, so I pulled out my relatively new Canon R6 for a bunch of shots — because that’s what it’s for, after all.
