Throwback: John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”

Back on September 11, 2005, I had returned home from a long day at work. My father was off. Or he took the day off. At some point, he’d find ways to get out of work to drink and do god knows what. He was cooking dinner and was playing John Coltrane‘s A Love Supreme. It made a lot of sense: Let’s remember the senseless loss of the day, but let’s also choose life and beauty — and with arguably one of the most beautiful, thoughtful albums ever written or recorded, inspired by God and God’s love. The album also features some of the most exceptionally talented musicians to have ever lived.

For this site, it’s an annual tradition for me to share Coltrane’s beloved masterpiece.
