Live Concert Photography: Wild Child at Villain 9/23/16
The band Wild Child creates music that is bouncy, playful, and intensely honest; the material that makes up their most recent album, Fools, consists largely of Wilson’s emotions following the end of a long-term relationship.
The stories they tell through their music that are instantly relatable. When Wilson sings in “Meadows”, “You know I saw you, I know now that I’m falling / You turn your back to me and spread this damn disease,” she reminds us all of moments of yearning and vulnerability, when relationships hit rocky ground.
The Austin, Texas based band is comprised of Kelsey Wilson, Alexander Beggins, Evan Magers, Sadie Wolfe, Chris D’Annunzio, Drew Brunetti, and Matt Bradshaw. The band’s beginnings came about when Wilson and Beggins first met as back-up musicians touring for another band. When they attempted to write music together, there was an instant connection, and multiple songs were written by the completion of the tour. They returned to Austin with ambitions to record, and Wild Child was soon formed. Their sound is primarily folk, indie, and pop inspired, and the unique combination of a variety of instruments, including the ukele, cello, and trumpet creates a fresh on-stage presence.
