Located on a 180 acre property in Robbinsville, NJ, a small town about 15 miles southeast of Princeton, BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardam is the largest Hindu temple in the Western Hemisphere — and the second largest in the entire world.

Created as a place of worship for the Indian Diaspora in North America and as a way to enable visitors of all backgrounds and faiths to experience Hindu spirituality, architecture, culture and peace, every detail — from the stepwell with sanctified waters from 108 Indian rivets including the Ganges, to the thousands of hand carved statues and figures in sandstone, marble, granite and limestone — radiated with love, devotion and harmony.

The Akshardham Mandir, which I couldn’t photograph, was one of the most mesmerizing, breathtakingly beautiful buildings I’ve ever stepped foot in. Light here and throughout the property had a dazzling luminosity that seemed otherworldly. Such images and sensations will be imprinted on my soul.
