Late last month, I was in Philadelphia for the first weekend session of Asian Art Initiative’s Sound Type Music Festival and Music Writers Workshop. Because of the nature of the trip down, it had felt as though it were somehow more of a whirlwind experience than before.

March 23, 2024 featured some of the most miserable weather I’ve experienced on a trip to date. There was Nor’easter-like torrential rain, which naturally, led to quite a bit of flooding. And because my hotel room didn’t have a window that looked out into the street, I couldn’t tell how bad it was — until I got out. Instead of going to Khyber Pass Pub, I decided to stay near and walk the handful of blocks up the street to Cafe Lift.

Walking up North 11th Street, I wound up getting drenched and almost splashed by passing cars twice. By the time, I got to Cafe Lift’s Northern Liberties location, I was sopping wet. But breakfast, right! These scrambled eggs with cheese were the cheesiest eggs I’ve had in some time. And they were super fresh. The potatoes were great. But as I mentioned in a previous post, when it came to sausage, I just didn’t completely care for it.

The eggs were seriously the best part of the whole breakfast. And I’d go back there again — just for the eggs.
