I’m currently in Philadelphia for the fifth installment of Asian Arts Initiative’s Sound Type Music Festival and Writers Workshop. Although this trip is a relatively short trip that has me in the City of Brotherly Love for about 36 hours or so, the trip must continue as much as humanly possible.
Last week, I was in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec to cover the 22nd edition of FME. Of course when in Canada, especially in Québec, you must have poutine. I suspect that it’s provincial law — and it must be followed.
Chez Morasse was highly recommended by locals and by the festival. During much of the festival’s run, the spot’s staff sold pizza, burgers, poutine and more, late into the night. Much like Montréal’s La Banquise, a late night stop at this spot will give you a glimpse into local life as a young person.
While covering this year’s FME, I ran into a dear Montréal friend and her girlfriend. I had recommended catching this woman and we wound up catching about half of her set, when my friend said “Poutine?” My response was “I had some yesterday. But yes.”
So another stop at Rouyn-Noranda’s Chez Morasse. This time for pork poutine, which was one of the best things I had the entire trip.
