Photography: Washington Square Park, East Village, and Lower East Side 4/5/21
Because of the generally nice, early Spring weather, I’ve been taking out my new Canon 6D Mark II out to literally photograph everything. Last Monday, I was in Washington Square Park and walked through the East Village and Lower East Side. Admittedly, walking through my old stomping grounds proved to be a surreal experience: Half the places I used to drink in or stop in are long gone. In some parts of the neighborhood, new development has made the once familiar, completely unrecognizable. But such is progress, I guess. And you can’t stop time’s unending rush.
But some vestiges of the New York I grew up still exist and still pop up from time-to-time. Musicians and artists still flock to Washington Square Park. Occasionally, you may still see a crusty, gutter punk on St. Mark’s Place. It briefly feels as though you’ve entered some weird time warp.
