Some time ago, I heard from a Winnipeg, MB-based indie pop quartet by the name of Grand Beach, who are currently finishing up a full-length effort that’s slated for release some time this year. In any case, their latest single “Swim Good” features S. Carey of Bon Iver and Daniella Andrade, and starting with it’s throbbing bass, languid synths and cooed vocals, and swirling electronics the track sounds as though it could have easily been a B-side on Octo Octa’s Between Two Sides before turning into a trippy yet pop song bearing more of a resemblance to United-era Phoenix, Air and the now-defunct Air France. But even if you’re unfamiliar with those acts – and that may be likely for some of you – the track is decidedly a summer track that is forceful enough for the dance-floor and chill enough for a backyard BBQ.
