Canal + TV series, Les Revenants is adapted from the eponymous Robin Campillo-directed film of the same name. The series like the movie is set in an isolated, French mountain village where the locals have been disturbed after children who had died in a tragic bus accident have seemingly come back to life, unaware of their deaths. The show which reportedly captures a sense of unease throughout is one of Canal +’s highest rated programs in the channel’s history.
Glasgow’s Mogwai were enlisted by show’s producers to compose a soundtrack for the show after catching their work on the soundtrack of Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait. Sub Pop Records will be releasing Mogwai’s soundtrack on February 26th through digital, vinyl and CD formats across North America. if you’re in Europe, Mogwai’s Rock Action Records will release the album through digital, vinyl and CD forms across Europe on February 25th.
“Wizard Motor” is the first track from the soundtrack album and much like the show it’s influenced by, the track starts off with an eerie, unsettling beauty before building layers upon layer of tension. In some way, the track also manages to remind me of Collapse Under the Empire’s work — both manages to evoke a certain mood in a very cinematic fashion.
