Comprised of Clinton Callahan (bass), Scotty Hoffman (guitar/vocals), Sam Jacobsen (organ), and Sean Zearfoss (drums), the quartet of Small Reactions have quickly developed a reputation for a sound that reportedly draws both cues and influences from the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen, Stereolab, Wire and even The Strokes. And although to my ears, that’s pretty debatable, you will hear the distorted angular guitars and motorik-like groove that will most likely sound dimly familiar, on “Terrorangles,” one of the latest singles off the band’s soon-to-be released debut full-length effort Similar Phantoms; however, unlike the influences the band reportedly claims, “Terrorangles” has a breezier feel that manages to lift the material a bit, and makes it radio friendly.
