If you’ve been following JOVM the last few months, you may have remembered that I had written about Meanwhile, an up-and-coming British electro pop sensation who has received praise from the likes of The GuardianNME, Noisey and others for an 80s-inspired, seductive synth sound reminiscent of 1999 and Purple Rain-era Prince and others. And interestingly on his latest single, “Icarus,” Meanwhile’s sound reminds me quite a bit of Gordon Voidwell; in other words, much like Voidwell, Meanwhile has crafted a slickly produced sound comprised of layers of sinuous, sensual synths, angular rhythm guitar, throbbing bass, and vocals sung in a come hither falsetto. However, despite the sexy party vibes, the song manages to be incredibly confessional and intimate, which makes the song seem even sexier.
