Live Concert Photography: Indie Shuffle Rooftop Showcase at Our Wicked Lady feat. Noble Oak with Moon Bounce and Gosh Pith 8/20/16
Noble Oak’s enthralling and immersive sound captivated the rooftop bar of Brooklyn’s Our Wicked Lady. Toronto-based Patrick Fiore was classically trained in piano from an early age, and transitioned to writing music with the computer at age 19. Ambient, dream pop, and emo music have all played a part in creating Noble Oak’s mesmerizing electronic sound, and Fiore mentions in particular Enya, Brand New, and Washed Out as influences. His set included a few tracks from his first album Past Life, including “Begin to Say” and “Coastline.”
Fiore finished the night with “Fast Summer.” As the crowd swayed with the music, drinks in hand, and Manhattan’s lights winking in the distance, the expressive piece perfectly captured the nostalgic atmosphere of the warm August night. Noble Oak is currently on tour in Japan.
Moon Bounce is the experimental “mutant pop” project of Philadelphia-based musician Corey Regensburg. Regensburg’s music is startling, erratic, funky, and incredibly compelling—Regensburg moves as if he’s possessed by his out-of-this-world music, and it’s impossible to stay still listening to him. The catchy “Shake” is full of distorted rhythms, jarring beats, and dramatic sound effects.
Regensburg studied Musical Theatre at the University of the Arts, and the extensive influences for his innovative music include Prince and the electronic music of Baths, as well as the work of gospel artist Doobie Powell.
Gosh Pith, of Detroit, Michigan, finished the night. Comprised of Josh Freed and Josh Smith, the duo’s sound crosses multiple genres, and is a mix of R&B, electronic, hip-hop, and indie-rock, among others.
Kellie studies architecture history at Columbia University and visual arts at the Art Students League of New York. She has an interest in most art forms, including drawing, sculpture, design and photography, and is currently a Digital Media and Design Intern at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. On campus, she is a board member of the Artist Society, and illustrates for the Blue and White magazine.
