Live Concert Photography: Seun Kuti and Egypt ’80 with Ikebe Shakedown
Brooklyn Bowl
June 19, 2015
As I’ve mentioned a number of times on this site lately, it’s been a rather busy summer in the world of JOVM, and as a result I’m busily catching up on a ton of live music coverage. Back in June, me and a dear friend were at Brooklyn Bowl for an incredible night of Afrobeat featuring local collective Ikebe Shakedown, touring to support their full-length debut Stone by Stone released last year, and Seun Kuti and Egypt ’80, fronted by the youngest son of the legendary and controversial creator of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti. Interestingly, I had seen Seun’s older brother Femi at Brooklyn Bowl a week before to kick off Northside Festival, and I had spent a huge portion of the show comparing and contrasting the two very different men; personally, it seemed that Seun channelled his father’s stage presence and personality quite a bit more than his older brother.
Check out photos from the show.
