Summer Thunder is a free weekly showcase, presented by Academy Records and the folks at Union Pool that features up-and-coming nationally and internationally touring acts and DJs at the Williamsburg hotspot and music venue’s back patio.
Throughout the course of the annual showcase’s run, Union Pool and Academy Records have regularly hosted the legendary avant-garde jazz outfit, Sun Ra Arkestra, the New York-based boogaloo, Latin soul and salsa composer, songwriter and pianist Joe Bataan, and an eclectic array of artists across a wide span of genres and styles.
Now, if you’ve been frequenting this site over the past month or so, you might recall that I’ve attended a couple of Summer Thunder shows this summer, including Xylouris White and Ismaily, Jones and Sawyer last month. But also in August, I caught William Tyler and The Impossible Truth with Garcia Peoples.
Check out photos from an afternoon of trippy sounds.
