My Gift To You, which Basin Street Records will release on June 11th, is the first album from Davell Crawford (the grandson of James “Sugarboy” Crawford) in almost 14 years. Although, the younger Crawford has lived in New York since 2005, presumably as part of the exodus of folks relocated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the new album is a love letter and a mission of solidarity with his birthplace, New Orleans. “River/White Socks and Drawers” is the first single from Crawford’s forthcoming album, and it features guest appearances by Dr. John, one of the coolest dudes on the face of the earth, Big Freedia, the Queen Diva, and Donald Harrison, Jr. in some of the coolest, smoothest jazz you’ll hear in recent memory.
