Last year felt like a major step forward. Naturally, I hoped that momentum would continue. This year has at times felt a bit like 2 steps forward, 8 steps back. It has been difficult to get into the holiday spirit. But perspective matters: I know a handful of people who have lost loved ones. For them, this holiday will be the first of a series of extraordinarily difficult holiday seasons and anniversaries.

So I’ll say this: May this holiday season offer all of us a peaceful respite from a world on the verge of collapse and from sorrow and heartache.

Happy holidays everyone. And in 2026 let’s work to bring peace, love, understanding and justice for all.
