Photography: 50501 No Kings Day March 4/19/25
Before the march started, I chatted with this brother and sister, who were a bit older than me, but younger than my mom. So say, mid 50s. They asked me how I thought this would all end. I was honest — I haven’t a clue. But I think there will be more protests, more heightened unease. I mentioned that it was a profound and solemn honor to document this moment.
I have a cautious sense of optimism. If I didn’t, I don’t know how I’d manage to get up every day. Look, we will face whatever it is we all are meant to face. I have hope that there will be many everyday folks, who will display bravery, empathy and kindness; that there will be regular people who will recognize that you can change your world through small but mighty measures of love. But deep down, I have faith in my fellow New Yorkers.
