Corona and Elmhurst, Queens, NY July 16, 2026: Canadian wildlife smoke created a thick gray haze occasionally punctured by a pinprick of sun here and there. It wasn’t as apocalyptic as the Martian-like burnt orange skies of a couple of years ago; but still deeply unsettling.

To help conserve a little power and to get out of the house, I put on a KN95 mask and went downstairs to my courtyard and then took a short walk to Queens Center Mall to take some quick photos.

Is it me or does it feel like the world as we know it’s running down?
