The other day, a very dear friend of mine purchased a DSLR camera — her first! — and she wanted to begin playing with it. So we went to nearby Flushing Meadows-Corona Park for an afternoon of shooting, along with some tutoring and tips here and there from me.
While we were walking through the park, we passed by the Unisphere when my friend said to me “What is that fog? Is something on fire?” As it turned out, it was the renovated fountains on the Flushing side of the Unisphere. When they’re on, they produce a thick, smoky mist that in light of our world makes it seem like something terrible just happened; thankfully, it was just our imaginations running away with us.
Obviously, that inspired this particular short set of photos that I’ve dubbed “Cool Off — Or Apocalypse?”
