Golden Hour and Sunset, Beach 92nd-Beach 86th Streets, Rockaway Beach, Queens, NYC 10/20/26: There are a handful of places I’ve been where sunset seems strikingly different — the Dutch countryside, the German countryside, Quebec and Rockaway Beach.
Standing on the beach with cold sand under my bare feet, I saw fisherman on a jetty being pounded by waves, an image straight out of Maine. From the shore, surfers looked like flotsam and jetsam bobbing on the waves. Airplanes above us were making their final approach to JFK International Airport, about 6 miles away.
