Photography: Gotham Plaza, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park 6/28/22

The other day, a very dear friend of mine purchased a DSLR camera — her first! — and she wanted to begin playing with it. So we went to nearby Flushing Meadows-Corona Park for an afternoon of shooting, along with some tutoring and tips here and there from me.

At the Gotham Plaza entrance, there were tile mosaics commemorating both the 1939 and 1964 Worlds Fairs. Sadly, over the years, the mosaics suffered damaged from weathering and neglect. And now only one remains — this one depicting Elsie the Cow, the Borden Dairy Company mascot. There was a cow, who “played” Elsie at the 1939 World’s Fair, who helped demonstrate the company’s newest invention, the rotary milking parlor.

So here’s Elsie. And may she remain here for a bit longer.
