Photography: Illumination NYC’s Illumination Light Art Festival 5/3/24
Illumination NYC‘s mission is to unite people of all ages through light-based installations and technical wonders. They aim to fill a void in the Lower Manhattan community cultural calendar by welcoming local artists and curating unique visual experiences to the neighboring public — intended to be appreciated at night.
Illumination NYC’s Illumination Light Art Festival’s third edition took place last week — May 2, 2024 – May 4, 2024 — and according to the festival’s website, it was the biggest festival to date, featuring over 15 light art installations, interactive pieces, projection mapping, light-based performers, DJs and more in two zones: The World Trade Center Oculus and Belvedere Plaza/Brookfield Place in Battery Park City.
I had read about it and wanted to check out the installations. So I headed downtown on an unusually chilly Friday night in early May. The projection mapping on The World Trade Center Oculus reminded me of tripping on psilocybin mushrooms — and were a definite highlight. Photos are below.
