Photography: Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Signs 5/31/25
When you’re heading into Rockaway, you pass through Broad Channel and Jamaica Bay via the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge. On a windy afternoon, just off the southbound side of the bridge, you’ll see parasailers in Jamaica Bay, their parachutes often just at eye level or a bit higher. There’s a small parking lot, just off the bridge, where you can stop and watch them. I’ve seen this several times and can’t get enough.
The SBS Q52 bus passes by this scene but sadly, the nearest stop on the Rockaway-bound bridge is about a mile-and-a-half away from where the parasailing can be seen. I mistakenly thought there was a bus stop that was a little bit closer, but i was proven to be very wrong. But, I took it in stride. I hadn’t been walking as much recently. And as it turned out, I caught these two signs by the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge that I would have normally missed because they’re very obscured by overgrowth.
