Québec’s official motto once was “La Belle Province,” “the beautiful province.” From land and from the sky, they weren’t wrong. La belle province, indeed.
Bonsound has an annual FME barbecue at a gorgeous yet rather unassuming house on Rue Perreault Street, not far from Avenue du Lac. In the back yard, there’s a a bean-shaped pool. And if you follow a a short walk down a winding pathway, you’ll wind up at the shores of Lake Osisko.
The next day, Hydro Québec hosted a showcase at Guinguette Chez Edmund, a small outdoor stage on the opposite side of the lake. Throughout my whirlwind stay in Rouyn-Noranda, I became familiar with the lake. Walking to venues in Vieux Noranda, the lake was on my left. On my way back to my hotel, the lake was on my right. It was always visible, always constant.
