Photography: Poison Heart, Philadelphia 3/22/24

I was as in Philadelphia last weekend for the first session of the Asian Art Initiative’s Sound Type Music Festival and Music Writers Workshop. Because of the nature of the trip down, it had felt as though it were somehow more of a whirlwind experience than before.

After meeting with the writers group, I rushed off to catch JOVM mainstays Psymon Spine at Silk City Diner. The set ended. The staff were preparing for a DJ set right after and they had stopped serving alcohol.

I really wanted a beer at this point. So, I googled bars near me and came across Poison Heart, which served Guinness. That caught my attention. And they were a few blocks away from Silk City Diner. Wins all around! The bar turned out to be what I needed for the night: They played really cool music — and it was a super low key, yet fairly friendly place. I’ll happily go back again next time.

Oh and they had a cool neon sign by the bathroom.
