Random Lefrak City in (Mostly) Monochrome 7/30/26: My mom and I live in a rent stabilized apartment: Mom and Dad moved from my grandmother’s home in Hollis to Lefrak in November 1977. I’ve been in the apartment my entire life. Whether 1977 or 1979, that’s a long time to be anywhere.
Earlier this month, the landlord mailed our renewal lease. And boy, what a thrill — and a fucking relief — to see $0 increase on the form. Thank you, Mayor Mamdani!
I may have a million and a half issues with my landlord but if it wasn’t for rent stabilization, I’m not sure that we’d be able to stay in New York.
I went to the post office around the corner to mail our lease. And because I hadn’t been out of my apartment for a few days, I pulled out my Canon R6 Mark II.
Photography always reminds me to slow down, to pay attention to a small detail that others may have missed or just weren’t paying attention to at all.
