Random Rockaway Beach/Arverne-by-the-Sea Scenes, Beach 67th Street 7/24/26: As a native Queens boy, my family would frequent Rockaway Beach — typically around Beach 92nd Street because they had free parking,

It’s a very different Rockaway than when I was a kid. New York rapidly all the time, and yet somehow feels the same.

Beach 67th Street was quieter, more low key. And much more local. In a small way, I was reminded of the Rockaway Beach of my childhood. And yet . . the water was the cleanest I’ve ever seen.

There’s something centering about one’s feet in the water when everything is shitty and on fire.
