Photography: Sigma Sound Studios 3/22/24
As I mentioned in a couple of previous posts, I was in Philadelphia last weekend for the first session of the Asian Art Initiative’s Sound Type Music Festival and Music Writers Workshop. After checking into my hotel, I quickly realized that I had forgotten to pack deodorant. But thankfully, there was a drug store a couple of blocks away on Market Street.
I decided to take my Canon R6 with me on my walk, with the idea that there may be a chance to take a couple of photos. I also was aware of the fact that the weather on Saturday morning was supposed to be bad, and that would limit where I could go, if I didn’t want to spend for a Lyft.
As I was walking to the local CVS, I was thrilled to stumble upon Sigma Sound Studios. Founded in 1968, Sigma Sound Studios was made famous globally for being the heart of the Philadelphia Soul Sound — with hits by The O’Jays, The Stylistics and others being recorded and produced by the legendary songwriting and production team Gamble, Huff and Bell. And this was a few blocks away from where I was staying!
