When I was a boy, the neighborhood kids would head downstairs whenever there was a major snowstorm. I have fond memories of playing tackle football in the snow — until it got dark.

It looks different now. One of the playgrounds was replaced with a soccer field, which is very popular during warmer weather. (A significant portion of my neighbors can proudly boast someone being from Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and many, many others.)

I was heading downtown for a wintry photo walk before heading to friends’ annual holiday season gathering. I knew I’d get some wintry photos. But I was thrilled to see some of the neighborhood kids playing in the snow. They may not have been playing football but I saw plenty of snowmen and snow angels being made. Not a cell phone to be seen. The more things change, the more some things seem to remain the same, huh?
