Some Early Summer Scenes, Beach 92nd Street, Rockaway Beach, Queens, NYC 5/19/26: When I was a boy, my family used to go to Rockaway Beach when my father had vacation time or some scheduled time off. We’d end up near Beach 90-something because they had free parking at the time. So, the Rockaways hit a nostalgia sweet spot for me. (I only started to go to Coney Island as an adult. Is that unusual? I don’t know.)

The past few days have been unusually hot. And as you can imagine, everyone, including me, was outside — at the beach. Despite the heat, the water was bracingly cold. But there’s something about having your feet in the water that feels centering doesn’t it?
