“Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet.” — Paul Klee

“Can color intoxicate? Is it possible to become drunk on light?” — Paul Salopek

As a native New Yorker, I’ve passed by St. Patrick’s Cathedral hundreds, if not thousands of times in my life. Last Sunday, I was by St. Patrick’s Cathedral for the Easter Bonnet Parade and Festival, a gloriously odd New York tradition that displays my fellow New Yorkers at their most creative. (Fittingly, as I was starting to edit those photos, my hard drive failed. Thanks SanDisk. But I’m working with them on resolving the issue. But still, very annoying.)

So unsurprisingly, up until last Sunday, I had never been inside the building. I’m a lifelong atheist, so the religious sentiment is lost on me; however, I was moved by the immensity of the place, by the sublime beauty of its architecture, and by the luminosity of light within.
