Photography: The Black and White Project, Revisited: Days 17-18: April 17, 2016 – April 18, 2016
After about an hour or two of desperately trying to figure out what I was going to do for Day 17 of the project, I turned to C, who has been this particular project’s muse, and said “Let’s go to Flushing Meadow Park. It’s on the way back to my place. I don’t think it will take that long — and more important, it’s a nice day.”
Photo Caption: To any lifelong Queens resident, the towers of the World’s Fair’s New York State Pavilion are a familiar reminder of home — and for those, who were around to see either the 1939 or 1964 World’s Fairs, a sense of hope and possibility. Sadly, as iconic as the structure is, they’ve been allowed to rust and rot. Perhaps, it’s more symbolic than anyone could imagine, suggesting that all things rot and rust in time even our dreams.)
(Photo Caption: There’s something intriguing to me about reducing the familiar to odd abstractions and attempting to make them as unfamiliar as humanly possible before putting it all back together. If there’s one other thing that particularly says “Queens, NYC,” it has to be the Unisphere.)
(Photo Caption: Rush hour traffic on the LIE shot with slower and slower shutter speeds — or this is how you see the world when you live here; as a blur of light and action.)
