Queens Rising, a month-long, multi-disciplinary celebration created to highlight my home borough’s culture and creative diversity, has held their annual launch event at Queens Museum. One of the speakers, usually our current borough president, mentions that the attendees should check out the museum’s Panorama of the City of New York. As a schoolboy, we used to make annual trips to the museum. Most folks who have seen it as a child, mention the panorama’s airplanes, which would land and take off from LGA and JFK with a childlike delight. I’ve caught myself doing the same.

The past four years, I’ve happily rushed off at some point for the rare opportunity to get the panorama to myself for a few minutes. It brings back memories of seemingly much simpler times. And wait, my apartment complex is right over there . . .
