Pleasure Power is the latest EP and single from the San Francisco, CA-based collective of Afrolicious. The EP title track has a propulsive disco-influenced bass line, and some incredible sax playing by Thievery Corporation’s Frank Mitchell. For the EP, DJ Smash (remix credits include Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, etc.) was enlisted to remix the track. And in his remix the vocals of Ziek McCarter and Erica Chidi are pulled to the foreground a bit more, and a funky yet sleek bass line reminiscent of Patrice Rushen’s “Forget Me Nots” or “Feels So Real” makes the remix sound as though it were heavily inspired the slickly produced R&B of the 80s. Also included are the original instrumental and the remix instrumental.
