Produced, recorded and conceived by Nicole Turley, the CEO of Neurotic Yell Records, best known for her work in bands such as Swahili Blonde, VAGENDA, and Weave!, Kimono Kult is a Los Angeles-based All-Star band featuring Teri Gender Bender, who has played with Bosnian Rainbows and Le Butcherettes; Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, best known for his work with At The Drive In, the Mars Volta, De Facto and Bosnian Rainbows; John Frusciante best known for his work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Knights, Speed Dealer Moms, and Swahili Blonde; Dante White of Detroit Cobras, Swahili Blonde, Starlite Desperation, and Dante vs. Zombies; and Leana Geronimo of the Like, Dante vs. Zombies, Swahili Blonde, and Raw Geronimo

Sonically, the band attempts to synthesize all of the signature styles and influences in a way that is unpredictable and difficult to easily pigeonhole. The first single off their 4 song EP, Hiding in the Light, “La Cancion De Alejandra” kind of reminds me of the Talking Heads‘ Stop Making Sense version of “Psycho Killer,” thanks to the acoustic guitar chords played over the wobbling 808 synthesizer beats. Adding to the genre defying sound, is Teri Gender Bender singing the song in a punkish, almost bratty Spanish
