Warm Blanket is the third album from Mississippi-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Dent May. The album was recorded in relative solitude in a reportedly haunted Victorian house in St. Augustine, FL. As he was recording, May played most of the instruments, making use of the house’s antique piano, and enlisting the help of locals to fill in on horns, strings and pedal guitar.
House music legend Larry Heard, was recently enlisted to remix “Born Too Late,” and instead of playfully catchy soul and funk, bolstered by gently psychedelic swirls of ambient electronics and strings, seemingly influenced by someone like Shuggie Otis, Heard turns the song into a slickly produced club track with quick paced drums and synths while retaining some of the strings and the melody. It still manages to be just as catchy and as playful, too.
