A Night of Poetry at the Ouchi Gallery 2/12/13

Last week, i was at the Ouchi Gallery to catch my friend Abdul Fattah Ismail read some of his poetry at the Ouchi Gallery in downtown Brooklyn. But the night just wasn’t about poetry. The night started with contortionist the Amazing Amy doing a piece inspired by the Chinese New Year – it’s the year of the snake and some of her routine involved movements that mimicked those of a snake. She was accompanied by cellist Jacob Cohen, who plays cello with a powerful (and yet sensitive) expressiveness throughout. Artist Eri Uemura, whose work was on display was there to do some live sketching for both the Amazing Amy and my man Abdul. It was a great night of art of culture and this time, I actually brought my camera – well, okay there was the possibility that i might have had a chance to cover a show after the reading but either way, it worked out.
