About a decade ago, Shaun Hettinger was in the Los Angeles, CA-based synth pop act, The Squares with Jeff “Jiffy” Wild from E!‘s Chelsea Lately and After Lately. Hettinger, who had long been obsessed with Wham!, moved to Brooklyn and started the chillwave/synth pop act, Kitten Berry Crunch. With a couple of hilarious videos from their Dreams EP, Kitten Berry Crunch won quite a bit of attention; however, that project was known for it’s material being incredibly tongue-in-cheek.

Memoryy is Hettinger’s latest musical project, and while retaining the core members from Kitten Berry Crunch, the band ditches the ironic, tongue-in-cheek aspects and focuses on a slickly produced, futuristic synth pop – it sounds much like it could have easily been released in 1983, 2013 or 2023.

“Electric City” is the first single and title track from the band’s debut, Electric City (which will drop in June) and in some way, you can hear elements of Wham!, Culture Club, and countless others.
