Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia poet Tim Fontaine relocated to New York in 2011 to pursue a career in music; in fact, as soon as he moved to New York, Fontaine fully focused on music, writing the songs and instrumentation (playing almost every instrument except for saxophone and drums) for Almost Human, the debut effort from Fontaine’s project, Boroko.
“The Expressionists,” the first single off Almost Human bears a resemblance to one of Australia’s greatest bands, the Church – in particular, the song kind of reminds me of “You’re So Beautiful” off Gold Afternoon Fix, as it has a dark, art rock sheen and poetic lyrics and Steve Wynn and the Miracle Three’s incredible Northern Aggression. In other words, it’s just a fantastically well-written rock song.
